They are seeking volunteers to help out in the following ways:
a) Media outreach: outreach to announce the conference to media resources, including translation of a one page media announcement, and helping to contact radio, tv and print media. They can arrange for APIDC spokespersons to be interviewed but definitely could use help in contacting the media.
b) Community outreach: help in spreading the word (including social media, in person presentations, email blasts) about the conference to consumers, churches, community organizations, schools, hospitals, neighborhood organizations, agencies, employers.
c) Interpreters: they are looking for bilingual volunteers to help interpret at the conference--headsets will be available for monolingual speakers. They are looking for several volunteers to meet this need as we'd like to arrange shifts. Not required to attend both days of the conference. No need to be court certified.
d) Plenary and panel session scribes: they are looking for people to sit in on the panel discussions, take notes and then give a short summary on the highlights of the panel discussions at the closing plenary session each day. Not required to attend both days of the conference.
The theme of the conference will be a celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the ADA, and a development of strategies moving forward, to help ensure that the hard to reach population of Asians with disabilities will be included in the numerous and diverse services now available to support people with disabilities. This will be a two day conference: breakfast plenary session, concurrent workshops, lunch plenary session, concurrent workshops and closing plenary session for each day.
